What is a Rino?

What is a Rino?

by Kristi Dunn

RINO stands for Republican in Name Only.  So, a RINO is someone that claims to stand on the Republican platform, while voting, advocating and supporting a liberal agenda.  In other words, someone that claims to be a Republican that does not adhere to historical Republican principles is a RINO.

In most cases, they call themselves a Republican but are really liberal socialists. Like Bush’s “Compassionate Conservatism” or McCain’s amnesty and global warming agenda.

In politics today there are several such RINOs, who enjoy full support from the establishment, regardless of what they believe. John McCain, Scott Brown, Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham and the former Republican Charlie Crist are all RINOs that enjoyed widespread support from the Republican establishment.

Since many in leadership in the Republican Party feel that party should come before principles, calling out these people can cause controversy. The problem is that when these people continue to call themselves Republicans, while acting like Democrats, it does more damage to the Republican Party than good.

A RINO is not just someone we disagree with.  A RINO is someone that has proven what they stand for, and has fallen woefully short of the standard.

If we wish to see true change in 2010 or 2012, it’s time to understand that what the rank and file Republicans, the Tea Parties, the protesters and the 912 groups are truly wanting: elected leaders that stand for the basic principles of limited government, lower taxes and individual liberties.
