Meeting Topic: “Liberty Rising: Lessons from the Front Linesl”

Synopsis:
The RLC of Northeast Florida is proud to support those who stand on the front lines of the Liberty Movement.  At our September 7th meeting, the Florida Primaries will be over and many will be wondering whether we are winning as a movement and if we aren’t… what is it going to take? What is the next step? It is with this mindset that the RLC has decided to assemble a panel of guests who have personally challenged the establishment by running for office as true liberty candidates. Find out what they learned from their victories and from their defeats. Joe Kennedy ran for US Senate in Massachusetts as a Libertarian after being forced out of the GOP. Nathan McDonnell, a first time Republican candidate, ran in opposition to a liberal Republican and career politician. Francisco Rodriguez ran against a multi-millionaire with big business connections in South Florida. Carey Baker ran against the establishment for the Florida house and lost, but came back and beat the establishment in an overwhelming victory. He is now a Florida State Senator and has introduced some revolutionary bills supported by the RLC and the Liberty Movement.

RLCNEF Greets Lt. Gov. Kottkamp With Large Crowd

RLCNEF Greets Lt. Gov. Kottkamp With Large Crowd

The August meeting of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Northeast Florida had a bit of a twist in the agenda, but still was very much a success for the over 100 members and guests in attendance (including a good number of candidates!).  Once again, the RLCNEF crew put together an amazing monthly event with food and drinks to refresh the participants before and after the meeting as they talked among each other and grew their camaraderie in liberty.

The featured speaker was Florida’s Lieutenant Governor Jeff Kottkamp.  As Kottkamp was scheduled to attend another event earlier in the evening, the agenda was reversed to allow him time to arrive, so recognition of elected officials, guests, candidates, special events, and the rest of the usual business was handled first.   Fred Engness (Jacksonville City Council At-Large 5), Dick Kravitz (Duval County Tax Collector) and Alan Kelso (State House District 20) were given an opportunity to speak.

The upcoming Florida Liberty Summit hosted by Campaign For Liberty (Aug. 13-15, Orlando) was announced, as well as the RLCNEF’s Third Annual Constitution Day (Sept. 17, Jacksonville).  This month’s Action Item was also presented: Help walk for RLC-endorsed candidates Charles Perniciaro (Thursday evenings) and Mike Yost (Saturday mornings).

Kottkamp was introduced by Republican Liberty Caucus of Florida Chairman Will Pitts, who spoke about the important of the state’s attorney general in protecting the liberties of a state’s citizens and the state’s sovereignty.  Kottkamp then spoke about his own view on the position and why he believed he would be a good choice for the people of Florida.  He wrapped up with a brief Q&A that included some hardball questions from the audience that obviously forced the lieutenant governor to give more consideration to his answers than prior questions he’d faced.

The RLCNEF also announced the endorsement of Alan Kelso for the State House District 20 election.

“He was very good speaker, he even got me going a little…as the lt attorney general I was surprised some of the RLC’ers were able to trip him up a bit. Overall good meeting though.” – Sarah Lovett

“Salute to the organizers of this meeting for keeping things going while waiting for the Lt Governer to arrive (late). Another interesting and informative meeting.” – Lesa Melaugh

“Getting better each month. I would like to have been a fly in the car with Kottkamp after he left the meeting. I wonder what rap he put on the questions?” – Cliff Johnson, Jr.

RLC Hosts Large Crowd As It Explains Party Structure

RLC Hosts Large Crowd As It Explains Party Structure

The Republican Liberty Caucus of Northeast Florida held an extremely important and foundational meeting on July 6, hosting 101 attendees and over twenty first-time guests. Before and after the meeting, those in attendance were treated to social hours where they could mingle while enjoying a spread of good food, drinks, and plenty of candidates in attendance to talk to members.

The meeting’s primary focus was on explaining the Republican Executive Committee and the RLC’s role within it. The presentation consisted of four parts:

1. Purpose & Goals of the RLC
2. Party Structure of the GOP
3. Party Operation & Process
4. Your Part in Reaching Our Goals

We were pleased to welcome Robin Lumb, County Manager for the Duval County Republican Executive Committee, to speak on the structure of the party, as an official representative of the local REC.

We were also excited to have in attendance Duval County REC Chairman Lenny Curry and officers from the St. Johns County REC as well.

The Action Item of the Month for July was to ask the members to attend their local REC meetings, get involved, build relationships and help achieve the goals of the RLC within the the REC and to promote the principles and ideals of the Republican Liberty Caucus.

“Best meeting to date. Informative and entertaining. Great food and cold beverages. Thanks RLCNEF, its sponsors and the Sheraton hotel.” – Lesa Melaugh

“Excellent meeting, very informative, active and fun.” – Rebecca Sharp

“Thank you everyone at the RLC meeting tonight. It was a great meeting!” – Luis Melendez

“I now have an understanding as to what the RLC is about and how it interacts with the Republican party. I also did not know about the REC’s and what they were all about…. So that was pretty cool too.  All in all, I have a lot to learn about our political process.” – Jennifer Vogel

“Good job on the presentation last night – very informative. This was the kind of meeting that broke everything down for me – making it easier to understand, especially when so many other political discussions go over my head. I’m glad you guys touched on the role of the REC, who holds the decision making power at State and County levels, how ballot candidates are selected, etc.  And now I know more about what the RLC hopes to accomplish…” – K. Gunn

“It was another fabulous meeting.  I now have a better understanding of the complex structure of the Republican Party of Florida and how the individuals REC function and the goals and strategies of RLC as works within it.” – Gary Morrison

“I found the RLCNEF meeting to be very educational. Before the meeting I did not know what the purpose of the RLC was or how it was related to the Republican party . I also did not know how I could get involved in local politics, and after the meeting I have a very clear understanding of how I can best do that. I also have a strong desire to see the RLC become active in my own area so that I can participate. ” – Christi Soderberg

RLCNEF Candidate Forum Meeting A Huge Success!

RLCNEF Candidate Forum Meeting A Huge Success!

The Republican Liberty Caucus of Northeast Florida held a very successful meeting on June 1, hosting 146 attendees (of whom 51 were first-time guests).  Even with several chairs available for seating, the size of the audience still meant that many were crowded around the room as it became “standing room only.” Before and after the meeting, those in attendance were treated to social hours where they could mingle while enjoying a spread of good food, drinks, and plenty of candidates in attendance to talk to members.

The meeting’s primary focus was a forum between the three candidates vying for the Republican Party nomination to run for United States Congress District 3, currently held by Democrat Representative Corrine Brown. Dean Black, Chris Nwasike, and Mike Yost were able to introduce themselves to the crowd, and then each answered seven main questions on liberty, followed by a lightning round (yes/no only answers) of twenty more questions on liberty. The answers marked a clear distinction between the three candidates and left the audience with a lot to consider.

The Action Item of the Month for June was to ask the members to attend assorted meetings of other Republican clubs and executive committees in the region to build relationships for and promote the principles and ideals of the Republican Liberty Caucus.

Here are some of the comments made by people who attended:

“Thanks John for the RLC Candidates forum for the 3rd Congressional Candidates. It was an honor to participate and to allow the people to determine who the real Constitutional Conservatives in the race really are. I hope you can do more of these forums in the near future and allow the people to determine the best candidates. I had a lot of people change their minds tonight and tell me that in person. Keep up the fight for LIBERTY.” – Michael Yost, CD3 Candidate

“First time attending and WOW! It was really great, I thought I would be bored, boy was I wrong. Very insightful, informative, educational, FUN! Getting more involved with this group as they have the same principles about getting this Country on the right path to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness! Hats off to the organizers and their commitment to the Founding Fathers and the Constitution! My prayer has been answered! Thank You God! Love and Light Rebecca” – Rebecca Sharp

“I thought it was a good meeting and was glad to be able to hear from several candidates all at once. …. All in all good meeting, thanks for putting it on. ” – John Ross

“Best candidate format I have seen.” – Mike Austell

“I thought the forum for the candidates was done very well and was very informative.” – Peggy Labs
