Meeting Topic: “State Sovereignty & The Attorney General”

Synopsis:
The RLC of Northeast Florida is proud to welcome Lt. Governor and candidate for Attorney General Jeff Kottkamp to our Tuesday, August 3rd Meeting. The RLC believes strongly that our state must stop the federal government from interfering with the lives of Floridians in any and all areas where it has no constitutional authority to do so. Lt. Governor Kottkamp will deliver a talk on State Sovereignty and the role that the Attorney General has in protecting Floridians from unconstitutional actions by the federal government. There will also be an opportunity for members and guests to ask questions and learn more about the role of our State Attorney General.

The meeting’s primary focus was on explaining the Republican Executive Committee and the RLC’s role within it. The presentation consisted of four parts:

1. Purpose & Goals of the RLC
2. Party Structure of the GOP
3. Party Operation & Process
4. Your Part in Reaching Our Goals

We were pleased to welcome Robin Lumb, County Manager for the Duval County Republican Executive Committee, to speak on the structure of the party, as an official representative of the local REC.

We were also excited to have in attendance Duval County REC Chairman Lenny Curry and officers from the St. Johns County REC as well.

The Action Item of the Month for July was to ask the members to attend their local REC meetings, get involved, build relationships and help achieve the goals of the RLC within the the REC and to promote the principles and ideals of the Republican Liberty Caucus.

Meeting Topic: “We Are The GOP!”

Synopsis:
Do you feel like the Republicans in power fail to represent the same principles as most grassroots conservative Republicans? Have you ever wondered why that happens and if there is a way to change it? Would you help change it if you knew how?

If you answered Yes to any of these questions, then you will want to attend the July 6th RLC of Northeast Florida meeting! Join us for a presentation that will cover the purpose and goals of the RLC; the power structure of the Republican Party; how the Republican Party works today; how the Republican Party is supposed to work; and what your role is in getting it there. The meeting will feature four different presenters, demonstrations, videos and a brainstorming session where your ideas can be heard and your questions answered.

Also, 2 tickets to Busch Gardens will be raffled off at a price of $5 per ticket. Please plan to bring cash to participate in this drawing!

The meeting’s primary focus was a forum between the three candidates vying for the Republican Party nomination to run for United States Congress District 3, currently held by Democrat Representative Corrine Brown. Dean Black, Chris Nwasike, and Mike Yost were able to introduce themselves to the crowd, and then each answered seven main questions on liberty, followed by a lightning round (yes/no only answers) of twenty more questions on liberty. The answers marked a clear distinction between the three candidates and left the audience with a lot to consider.

The Action Item of the Month for June was to ask the members to attend assorted meetings of other Republican clubs and executive committees in the region to build relationships for and promote the principles and ideals of the Republican Liberty Caucus.

Guest Speaker: Pastor Chuck Baldwin

Synopsis:
Why has the liberty movement enjoyed only marginal support among the faith based community? Is it not possible to be a strong advocate for individual liberty while living a faith centered life?  Join 2008 Constitution Party Presidential Candidate Pastor Chuck Baldwin for a discussion on Faith and Liberty. Pastor Baldwin has challenged Christians and their political activities with regards to the issues of abortion, war and gay marriage. Pastor Baldwin is not one to mince words. In his Open Letter to American Christians, he writes: “… today’s Christians, for the most part, are operating in a vacuum of truth and understanding.” Don’t miss this inspiring and thought-provoking meeting.

The Leadership Institute equips its graduates with the tools necessary for effective activism. Leadership Institute classes will teach its students how to the most effective is spreading the liberty message.

The Leadership Institute has made the RLC a great deal on 2 full days of classes. These classes will cover effective activism, public relations techniques, leadership training and communicating effectively.

Anyone interested in learning how to be a more effective activist is welcome to attend.

After a relaxing social hour, the meeting was opened with a video, “The Spirit of the Founders,” followed by Michael Wahlman leading the Patriot’s Pledge.  RLCNEF Chairman John Stevens recognized the first time guests and candidates in attendance, then turned the microphone over for brief comments by candidates Troy Stanley (U.S. House, District 4) and Nathan McDonell (Florida House, District 26).

The chairman’s comments then included some of the RLCNEF’s highlights and accomplishments from March, including an increase in membership (almost doubling the roster!).  Chad Dawkins recounted March’s members-only event hosted at the Peninsula downtown, and Victor Wilhelm talked about the RLC’s Liberty Days in Tallahassee.  Overall, it was a very successful month for the RLCNEF!

Following the March recap was the featured speaker, Steve Hempfling of the Free Enterprise Institute.  Mr. Hempfling provided a very informative presentation regarding the income tax and questions of its constitutionality, or whether it is mandatory or voluntary.  He provided a lot of excellent information to the crowd over the course of a forty minute presentation, and stuck around well after the meeting to answer questions.

When the featured presentation was finished, April’s “Action Items of the Month” were presented.  Cal Heseman asked members to attend the April 15th Tax Day Tea Party at the Jacksonville Landing.  Kristi Dunn told members about the May 1st/2nd Leadership Institute Class for Liberty Activists and the May 4th RLCNEF Meeting, and asked members to promote and attend both.

New Business wrapped up the meeting.  Chairman Stevens recognized new members who had joined since the last meeting.  Kristi Dunn informed members of the May 7th WOKV Stand Up For America event that the RLCNEF is sponsoring and asked members to attend and help man the booth.  Finally, Michael Wahlman presented the RLCNEF’s proposed revised bylaws, which were approved unanimously by a vote of the membership.

Meeting Topic: “The Income Tax: Is it Constitutional?”

Synopsis
The RLC advocates the elimination of the Federal Income Tax. There are many proposals for alternative means of federal taxation including  a Flat Tax and Fair Tax.  There are also numerous questions, ideas, theories and myths surrounding the income tax issue. Is there a law requiring you to pay taxes on your income? Is the income tax really voluntary? What is the most effective way to work towards its elimination? What taxing powers does the United States Constitution actually give to the Federal Government? Join guest speaker Steve Hempfling of The Free Enterprise Society for a fascinating presentation and discussion on the Federal Income Tax. Come and hear this courageous man’s first-hand experience in dealing with the IRS.
